Phoenix Mission

MDA, in partnerhsip with Optech Incorporated, developed the Meteorological Station (MET) on NASA's Phoenix Mars Scout program.

The MET Station includes a light detection and ranging (LIDAR) instrument, temperature sensors, and a pressure sensor to study the Martian atmosphere.

The MET station, the first instrument of its kind to be used on Mars, will play an important role in achieving the missions science goals by providing information on the current state of the polar atmosphere and how water is cycled between the solid and gas phases in the martian arctic.

The MET station is Canada's contribution to the Phoenix mission and is funded by the Canadian Space Agency.
