Gimbaled space antennas for tracking purposes have been part of MDA’s core
products for over two decades, for use in applications such as satellite-to-earth
tracking, inter-satellite links including TDRSS and LEO constellations, and in the
International Space Station Alpha. Gimbaled antennas that generate steerable beams
have also been supplied for several satellite programs, such as Koreasat-3.
MDA can provide the high-gain antenna as well as the complete system comprising
the structure, the gimbal mechanism and its control electronics, and the associated
transmitter and receiver units. MDA’s gimbaled antennas are designed for high
efficiency, compactness, low-mass, and high reliability, and can withstand the wide
temperature variations of space throughout the life of the mission. The emphasis
on innovative designs has led to low-cost products without compromising performance.
Frequencies have ranged from as low as L-Band up to 60 GHz in the high end.
