MDA books advanced technology contract
Vancouver, B.C. - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions,
announced today that its Montreal operation has signed a contract in excess of $6
million (CAD) with EADS Astrium for an antenna subsystem for Eutelsat's KA-SAT satellite.
Eutelsat, one of the world's leading satellite operators, will use KA-SAT for consumer
broadband services across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East as well as for
local, regional and HD broadcast services. KA-SAT will be Europe's first multi-beam
satellite operating exclusively in the Ka-band.
MDA will provide EADS Astrium, KA-SAT's prime contractor, with four transmit and
receive antennas, which will provide the satellite's multiple gateway and user beams.
The antennas will incorporate an advanced feed design which will enable them to
benefit from an enhanced pointing accuracy.
