MDA DELIVERS ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY SOLUTION DESTINED FOR THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION

Richmond, B.C. - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that Dextre, the special purpose dexterous manipulator developed under contract from the Canadian Space Agency, has been delivered to NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where it will undergo final preparations for delivery to, and installation on the International Space Station.

Dextre is a component of the Mobile Servicing System (MSS), Canada's contribution to the International Space Station. Two other components of the MSS, which are already operational on the space station, are the Mobile Base and the Canadarm2.

Once installed as an extension of the Canadarm2, the highly dexterous dual-armed solution will be able to touch, sense, and respond much like a human, and is expected to be used for many of the servicing and assembly tasks currently performed by astronauts on space walks. Continued operations and maintenance support for the components that make up the MSS will remain essential to ensure optimal performance throughout its life on the International Space Station.
