Nimiq 5 Communications Enabled by MDA Antennas
Montreal, Qc. - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd., a leading
provider of satellite systems is very delighted to have participated and made a
substantial contribution to the Nimiq 5 spacecraft, a Canadian commercial space
program. The satellite was successfully launched on Thursday September 17, 2009.
The Nimiq 5 satellite was manufactured for Telesat a Canadian satellite service
provider. The program will deliver a wide range of high definition and direct-to-home
television services across Canada and the United States. It has a planned 15-year
mission life and will operate in geostationary orbit.
MDA's Montreal operation supplied all five communications antennas onboard the satellite.
These antennas will offer 32 high power channels and carry out all communication
between the satellite and the earth over Canadian and US regions.
MDA is very proud to have designed, manufactured and tested the antennas using its
state of the art facilities at Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue and world renowned expertise.
